Hierarchy

Some months ago, my Younger Boy told me,
"Dad, I'm XXX's (My Elder Boy's name) Slave."

Few weeks ago, he briefed me,
"Dad, I'm XXX's worker."

Recently he updated me,
"Dad, I'm XXX's Assistant."

Very Lately, he advised me,
"Dad, I'm XXX"s Personal Assistant."

It's obvious that even a 6-year-old understand the Hierarchy.
Thanks to the Lion KING?
But at least, he's Advancing in his rank!

I : Why do you do whatever XXX tells you?

B : A Younger Brother has to what he has to do.

I : Which is?

B : Whatever his Elder Brother asks for.

I : You do NOT have to if you do not want to.

B : I want to................ because he'll give me something back.

I : Which is?

B : To invent a new game to play with me!

Oh, Yes, Carrots and.....................Carrots!

Open Home

We've recently put our house for a Private Sale.

http://www.diysell.com.au/realestate/detail.asp?PropID=P20248

And we're to do our 1st Open Home this Sat.
So, I shared with my wife about some Innovative Ideas.

I : I think we should make our Open Home Unique.

W : Meaning?

I : Like try something New.

W : Like?

I : Putting up our Bouncing Castle in our garage, creating a Party Mood?

W : I prefer keeping the Castle for Indoor Use.

I : Having a BBQ, creating a Family Mood?

W : I've to do extra shopping and cleaning then.

I : Our boys playing soft piano background music, creating a Relaxing Mood?

W : That's a Good Idea. The Boys need to help too.

I then talked to my elder boy.
He liked the idea too.
So, I asked him to write down the songs he'd be playing.

He came back with a Surprise.
He did write down the songs on a piece of paper.
But the "Heading" on the paper was,

"Terms & Conditions in Playing Piano",
Stating clear there'll be NO Shouting, NO Change in songs etc..

Speechless!

Lonely

I had a chat with my 6-year-old boy about "Lonely" a few days ago.

I : Have you ever felt Lonely, my boy?

B : No.

I : Why Not?

B : Why should I? I can always play by myself, play piano, play lego & read books.

I : What about playing with others? Do you not want to play with friends?

B : XXX (my Elder Boy's Name) is my friend. You're my Friend. Mum is too.

I : Do you not want to play with children of your age?

B : No. I can play with anyone.

I : Who's your best friend, then?

B : XXX!!

I : What about me?

B : You got 99.1 out of a hundred.

I : Well, that's Good! Very Good! Mm..... Just Curious. What's Mum's score?

B : Well, it's 9........9........99 point.......5, 99.5!

Never mind, Strict Dad is always not as popular as Kind Mum!

Second

Second Best.

The name of a small shop selling second hand goods in UK.
In a small village, Brightling Sea.

It came to my head when my wife mentioned the word, "Second."

I was Day Dreaming at the time.

W : We should thank our children.

I : Oh, yeah......

(What's the catch?Mm...... Setting me up to thank you?)

W : Because they've given us a Second Childhood.

I : Oh..yeah.....

(Wait a Second.. what's the catch?)

W : It's because of them, I play Lego again, play chess again, watch Tom & Jerry again...

I : Oh, yes. Of course (woke up at last)
Yes, you're absolutely right. I'm feeling like a young boy too. Pretending to be a tiger....

W : Many parents trying to bring their children into an Adult World.
And Our boys bring us to their world, a Child's World, a much Happier World.

I : That's Right. A World full of Fun & Laughter.
(Even at aged 6, my younger boy very often still tends to skip and not walk!)

I : Mm..... May be......
May be, we should also have a Second......

W : Second?

I : Second Honeymoon!

Take For Granted

I often remind my boys, amongst other things,

NEVER Take Things for Granted

E.g. Never assume that bad things Only happen to others.
E.g. Never assume that everyone is a Kind person.

My rented car was Unlawfully Ticked.

When parking the car outside a supermarket,
I checked the parking meter, confirming there was still 90 minutes.
So, I did not put any more coins in.

When coming out from the store,
I was shocked to see a parking ticket - when there was still 67 minutes left!

Shocked I was ticketed for parking a car at a meter,
".....showing the word 'Expired'" (According to the ticket)
Speechless.

I asked my 10-year-old Elder Boy.

I : Why I was ticked?

B : May be the officer is new. He issues more ticket, so that he gets more money!

I : No. He will NOT get more pay for issuing more tickets.

B : May be he only saw you parking at the meter but not knowing there was still money in the meter.

I : Still, he's to check the meter First.

B : That's True.

I : This's Serious. If he did not check the meter First before issuing, he's Neglect of his Duty.

B : ........

I : But if he'd checked the meter First AND still issued the ticket, he'd committed a Criminal Offence.

The Biggest Challenge for any parent, I suppose, is to,

Help their child to avoid being a Victim of someone's

- Mistake
- Incompetence
- Neglect
- Laziness
- Greed
- ..........

P.S. I made a complaint to the Mayor. She replied she did not know why it had happened. But had cancelled the ticket and apologised for any upset that might have caused

Holiday

Tomorrow comes the end of our 6-day holiday in Cairns.

My 10-year-old Elder Boy stated this morning,
"It would be nice if we stay in Cairns for a month."

Sound familiar?

Earlier this year, we had a 4-day holiday in Gold Coast.
My Elder Boy stated at the time,
"We should stay here for at least a week."

Children love holidays.
Especially mine.

Because they have to do MINIMUM work while on holiday.
No Comprehension. No Writing. No Maths etc.

But I always remind them,
"Life is Work, Play, Work, Play....."
"Can NEVER be ONLY Play"
"And Always Work First"

And I also remind them lately,
"You two have More Holidays than most children,
"Because Mum & I are always prepared to take you two for holidays"

But, I've made a deal with my Elder Boy.

He's to have a Longer Holiday.
And an Overseas Holiday.
If he does well in the coming International Test.
I would like to know where he's at.

Children love Negotiation.
And they are good at it!
