11+

I got some UK 11+ Sample Papers for my Elder Boy.
To see if the questions could stimulate him.

While driving him to his piano lesson, my Elder Boy surprised me.

B : I found something interesting about the 11+.

I : Which is?.

B : You know there are 80 questions.

I : Yes.

B : This like "Life" - people live till the age of 80.

I : Yes.

B : And if you get all 80 right, you'll have a Good Life.

I : What about if you get Q26 wrong?

B : That means you've a problem at the age of 26.

I : What about if you get Q11, Q29 & Q46 wrong?

B : That means you'll have problems at the age of age 11, 29 & 46!

His smile made him looked like a Feng Shui Master!

PSP

About 3 months ago, I'd started organised something special for my boys.

I discussed with my Elder Boy.

I : I'm going to give you a PSP?

B : Really? ....Cooool!

I : NOT the Sony PSP.
But a Positive Study Partnership

Yes, I found two girls, one Year 5, one Year 6 to join my boys.
Every Sat/Sun for 4 weeks they met & I taught them certain skills.

One of which is Presentation Skill.

One day, I asked them to take turn to stand out,
To tell the audience (i.e. 3 parents & 3 other children),
One thing that made them Happy last week;
One thing made them Unhappy last week; and
One thing they'd learnt from their Mum last week.

It's my Elder Boy's turn.

He spoke with a smile in his face,
"One thing that made me Happy last week was Home Schooling.
One thing that made me Unhappy last week was My Dad shouted,
'You should have known this one!!' when I got one question wrong.
My ears are still hurt!
And one thing I'd learnt from my Mum was,
'If you cannot say something nice......just don't say it!"

Very Humorous!

Swimming > Learning

My boys took a 5-day Intensive Swimming Course 2 weeks ago.

I had a chat with my 6-year-old Younger Boy on the last day.

I : So, what've you learnt from your Swimming Lesson?

B : Never Give Up!

I : Wah! That's good! Did the Teacher tell you? Or she just showed you?

B : No. Noone told me...I just know it myself.

I : How?

B : I just know it. When I was climbing the Inflatable....

I : Oh...so you'd learnt this AFTER the Lesson.

B : Yes. During the Playtime After the Swimming Lesson.

I : When you're climbing the Inflatables?

B : Yes. When I climbed the Slippery and Tall Inflatables.
Although I kept falling into the water, I made it in the 4th time!
Because I kept trying.

I : Never Give Up?

B : Yes, Never Give Up! Never Give Up!
(Repeating with a Shaking & Smiling Head...and a Fist in the air!)

Time Machine

I'd a relaxing talk with my 10-yea-old Elder Boy about 2 months ago.

I : If there's a Time Machine, where/when would you like to go?

B : Mm..... Going back to the Age of Dinosaurs.

I : Yes, of course, you love Dinosaurs.
Would you like to guess my wish?

B : Going back when you're a child?

I : No, I'd like to go Forward.

B : Mm....

I : I'd like to go Forward............when you're 30.
Your 30th Birthday will be my "Judgement Day".
To see how you're doing at the time.
To see if I've done a Good Job as a Father.
You would make me Proud if you say on the day,
"Thank You, Dad, Now I Know Why!"

B : I'd like to go Backward.

I : What age?

B : When I was.............. 0!!

I : Mm......

B : So, I don't have any homework, just play all day!

Winner

I took my boys for a Chess Tournament about a week ago.

My 6-year-old Younger Boy was particular excited.
This's his second time taking part in a tournament.

He was pretty relaxed when playing his 1st match.
Against a girl about 2 years older than him.
But then he broke the rule.

He showed the child sitting next to him how to move against his opponents.

I : You should be concentrated on your own game.
(Hinting that he should not interrupt another game)

B : I was only Helping others.

I : He learns More by thinking all by himself.

My Younger Boy won his 1st game.
Moved on to play another game.
Against another boy younger than him.

And.....he lost!

All because he broke the rule again!

I : Was he that good?

B : No. He kept making the wrong moves.

I : But he'djust beated you.

B : Yes, because I'd let him off.

I : How?

B : When I got his Queen, he was sad. So, I'd let him make another move instead.

I : O.K.

B : When I got his Rook, he was sad. So I'd let him make another move instead.

I : I'm proud of you, my boy. To me, you're a Winner.

B : Even though I'd lost?

I : Yes. Because you care about others.

B : Really? I'm a Winner? Yeah!!

I : But remember, simply letting others off does NOT really help them.
They've to learn from their Own Mistakes.
